I love a marquee wedding. I also love Miss Bush, an institution of a luxury bridal dress boutique. In fact I also love the passion drive and character that is the Director of Miss Bush, Emma Meek. So, when Emma got in touch with me to table her idea for a unique, marquee focused wedding event I knew I wanted to be involved. If you are planning a marquee wedding and you can make it to Miss Bush, Ripley, Surrey for 19:00 on 11th April 2019, you really should be booking a seat.
For me, a marquee wedding is a favourite on many levels, but, mostly, because: it's your own blank canvas, free to style or do with whatever you choose; it's also a flexible space with endless possibilities in terms of the structure look and style; you can pop a marquee pretty much on whatever ground space you like (your parents back garden as an example), which means that you can have the luxury of putting together your own hand picked supplier list and not being tied to preferred supplier lists.
PLANNING A MARQUEE WEDDING
A marquee, however, does come with its own specific set of things to navigate - that are unique to this type of wedding. First up, you're building an entire venue from the ground upwards. A marquee is not just a tent, you'll need a catering tent and a kitchen inside this, flooring, heating, lighting, staging, dance floor, tables, chairs, toilets, power. If you've never tackled this before this can be a little bit, daunting. There's a lot to think about and its why you'll need a team of suppliers super experienced in not only weddings but, specifically, the nuances of a marquee wedding (catering in a tent is a very different task to in a venue kitchen). If you're having your marquee wedding at home, this supplier team will need to have access for site visits. In the run up to the event there will be deliveries of kit and equipment and the entire build, wedding and take down will happen across, on average, 5 days. Then there is the consideration of what you do with that blank canvas? How do you style it and where do you begin to think about in terms of using the space? How do you lay out the space so that your marquee "flows" nicely and what about wet weather?
